2017 the Year to Be Happy
It’s been fun this time of year to reflect on the Happy Playces in our lives in 2016 and get excited for the Happy Playces to come in the year ahead! Happy playces can simply be enjoying a cup of coffee in the quiet of my kitchen early in the morning or sitting on the beach in Costa Rica watching my family surf. Traveling makes me happy, parenting makes me happy, faith keeps me strong and graceful through it all!! Looking ahead at 2017 do what you love and when it’s all said and done you will land in your happy playce in life!
By now everyone has made their resolutions, adopted their word of the year, bought self-help books, and set up all kinds of goals some realistic and others unrealistic! So, what’s going to be the magic that turns this year into the year to be happy? Is it slowing down? is it saying no? is it being mindful? what is going to change our hearts into truly being happy? One thing I have decided is that 2017 is the Year to BE HAPPY!
I think it’s definitely how we look at the life before us as individuals and as a family. What is this life that we are making? I’ve talked about his before, but I truly believe when we accept that the choices we are we making, in our day to day life directly affect our happiness, our life can start to change for the better! Life is a journey of self-discovery; as we grow and change every year our perspective on life looks different! For mothers, as our children grow and change our role as a mother looks different! As spouses, our relationships need to deepen and change! Going with the flow of motion in our daily lives, instead of resistance will help us look at life through the lense of happiness!
How do you visualize the daily tasks ahead? How do you visualize your goals? Do you surround yourself with positive uplifting people; to encourage you to enjoy your day, reach your goals, and keep dreaming the impossible dream with the end result is you being the happiest you can be!
I decided to make some happiness hopes? I love the word hope instead of goal~ we can hope to achieve our goals, towards making this the Year to Be Happy!
I printed my happiness hopes and have them in my daily planner as a reminder! I encourage you to make your own list of happiness hopes (or copy mine) as we strive to be happier every day!
Happiness Hopes for 2017
Setting Hopes: Choose 4 hopes for your year! Here are my 4:
- Entertainment Hope: New Books to read, New shows to watch, Podcasts to listen to, Concerts to attend, Sporting event; keep a running list of recommendations, but pick one to do right away! Buy the book you’ve heard so much about, subscribe to a podcast, research a concert or sporting event coming to town. I think there is such freedom when we give ourselves permission to treat ourselves!
- Trip Hope: Book a trip! Whether it is a one night stay at a local hotel or a weekend car trip, or fun getaway flight! Put one on your calendar- great memories are made on trips, the world is wide open and ready for us to explore! I’ve found that when we travel with our kids they have our undivided attention! Involve everyone in the planning, which can be part of the fun, give the kids or your spouse different places to research, have them make a list of what they want to see, or what they need to pack OR be spontaneous and secretly pack the bags and make it a surprise! Where?, When?, How?, but not WHY we know Why!!
- Spiritual Hope: Make time to fill ourselves spiritually! Setting aside time each day to meditate, time to read the Bible, and be still! I’ve truly found that if I start my day in a spiritual way, the day has a whole different mood to it. I have turned all my worries into prayer, I have set my heart on the Word of God and not on my daily agenda. Life is so much sweeter when we are still and focused on what is right! A favorite scripture of mine is 1Samuel 16: “Now, then stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes.”
- Personal Hope: Be Kind to Ourselves! Don’t let our day to day lives tie us down. Change up your routine, say no to something that is taking your time away from the things you love, and say yes to what truly makes you happy! Meal planning and cooking is something that was bogging me down, so I decided to involve the kids. We sit down Sunday afternoon and they help make the list and plan the meals. End result: they are meals they love and can even help cook! Love Life- being mindful every minute of every day! Stopping at different times of the day to give thanks, helps remind us to enjoy the little moments and change our focus! Count our blessings; little and big-journaling or capturing pictures to remind ourselves truly how blessed we are.
So, those are my 4 Happiness Hopes! At the end of year, I hope to look back, reflect, and say I feel better than ever before ~ I’m happier!! I’m healthier in mind, body, and spirit! Make 2017 the Year to be Happy!!
