Happy Playces on the MOVE!
We are in a Happy Placye!! Have you noticed, our pictures have changed from Coastline to Mountain ridges!! Happy Playces has moved from Alabama to Colorado! It has been a fun journey and I am so excited about where we our geographically and emotionally as a family! Here’s a little bit about our move!
At the beginning of 2017, we sat down as a family and began praying about a move! Ready to experience all life has to offer in a different place! Although some may think this is crazy and scary, we were excited about the change! We made a list of what was important to us and Colorado hit all the marks. So, we said a prayer and began the process!! Selling our house, packing our things, and house hunting in Colorado!! Believe it or not, we truly did enjoy watching the process unfold before our eyes. Trusting in God that this was the right decision for our family and believing that it would all fall in to place if it was meant to be!!
I think, just like many things in life, it is fun to watch life through the eyes of a child. You tend to keep things positive and fun, so everyone enjoys the decisions that have been made! The kids were excited from the get go and so were we!! We had some fun with them the day we sold the house! Ryan created a piece of mail that looked like it had been delivered from Colorado. It had a letter in it that said, “Congratulations on the sell of your house and welcome to Colorado!!” They were so excited!! We just did little things along the way to make all the steps of the move fun and exciting!
We also tried to keep everything as “normal” as possible! As one friend sat at my island the night before we left, saying goodbye, she couldn’t believe I was cooking dinner! But number 1. we love our homecooked meals 2. it helped everyone feel a little normal ~ even though there was lawn furniture to sit on in the living room and 3. I knew we would be eating on the road for a couple days. I feel like as moms during any life changing event in life, we try to do whatever makes our people feel at ease is best and food is our love language!!
Saying good bye to friends and family is never easy, but we had such a sense of peace believing God was nudging us in this direction. We were so grateful for the love and support of all of our friends and family and their encouragement along the way. A common statement was, “We’re sad to see you go, but Colorado fits you well!” Good-bye soccer parties, toasts with close friends, lunches, champagne and popsicles with carpool buddies and last hugs with our family will be stamped on our hearts forever!
April 20, 2017 we packed up all of our belongings and headed out on our journey!! We drove across Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, to Colorado!! Let’s face it the drive wasn’t all that easy and the newness wore off about a day into it! BUT, we kept our eye on the prize and did our best to stay positive and happy despite a couple of hiccups we occurred along the way! The way we handle situations as parents, plays a huge impact on our children and how they learn to handle life events! You can choose to lose your patience or keep calm and enjoy the ride! We have such a way as a family to remind each other to take a deep breath and it will all be okay!
So, here we are settling in quite well!! We are SUPER excited about what life has in store for us in Colorado! The kids jumped right into their favorite sport, Soccer, and it’s been so fun to watch them make new friends and excel at what they love!! So many opportunities for our outdoor lifestyle! It actually snowed 8 inches the Friday night we moved in!! So Saturday morning was full of snowball fights and sledding, the kids were ecstatic!
We’ve already been on a couple of trail runs and hikes and are looking forward to many more!! The list goes on and on but we are excited about camping, rafting, hiking, rock climbing, skiing, sledding, and exploring this great state! The calendar is filling up with fun adventures; we already have our first fourteener (climbing to 14,000 ft elevation) marked!! I can’t even get over the fresh mountain air, especially right after a rain!!
Life is a gift ~ full of adventure and we feel so blessed to be enjoying this life together as a family, here in our new state of Colorado!! We are excited for you to follow along as we enjoy our new Happy Playce!!
Sounds wonderful! What a great adventure. Kat and Finn are headed your way and will be living in Jefferson County!
