MOTHER’S DAY 2016
Being a mother is one of the greatest blessings in life! Every year around this time we are given the time to reflect on what being a Mom is all about. It’s a time to reflect on the “gifts” we have been given! Each one of our children are unique and special in their own way and that’s what makes this journey of motherhood so special.
Being a mom of young kids, my favorite gifts are the homemade gifts. I love any type of gifts with hand prints! It’s just such a reminder of how small their sweet little hands are and as they grow how big they are getting! Last year, my sweet Evian wrote a poem about me and it was the greatest! Miles wrote the funniest book about me where he described my physical attributes only as a 6 year old can and favorite meal to cook was mac n cheese! The best part is not the gifts themselves, but the sweet expressions on their faces as I open their gifts. They are so proud- it’s something they have completed for me, brought home in their backpack and typically hidden under their bed or under their pillow!
Mother’s Day is not only about 1 day a year, but it is a time to reflect on the daily blessings of being a mom. From those warm hugs in the morning after a great nights rest to those last goodnight kisses where Miles tells me, “I love you more!” and EVERYTHING in between! What is EVERYTHING?? Everything is: holding hands, reading books, happy smiles, goodbye cries, giggling, singing together, little voices saying prayers, hugs, watching them play sports, listening to stories, resolving sibling quarrels, and always the unexpected!
One of my greatest journey’s as a mom has been growing with them. Learning along the way! and being honest with them about that. Sometimes I feel like its good for them to know we don’t have all the answers, but we are in this together!! Recently, I have reflected on the fact that not only am I trying to raise healthy strong children in their character and mind and spirit! But they are also helping shape who I am as a person. We have to remember to relax and enjoy motherhood and God is blessing us each day through them and what a joy that is!
This year I was introduced to Podcasts, more on that on another post:) BUT, I have really enjoyed listening to moms share their personal stories of motherhood on podcasts. You remember when you are a new mom and it is so refreshing when you hear other mom’s talk about their struggles and you don’t feel so alone anymore. Now it is so awesome to listen and learn from other mom’s and their journey of balance between motherhood, being a working mom, and a child of God. I feel truly blessed to be a mom and share in this adventure of Life with my kids! Remember to find what makes you happy, because when you are happy your kids can truly be happy, too!
I would love to hear some of your favorite Mother’s Day gifts or what sweet stories of Motherhood you have!
