THANKSGIVING, COSTA RICA 2016
Thanksgiving has become a fun traveling time for us! I am truly thankful for this time to travel and spend as a family. I love that we all love to travel, the kids get just as excited as we do about experiencing new cultures and going on an adventure together. This Thanksgiving took us to Costa Rica!
WESTIN PLAYA CONCHAL
A quick flight from Miami to Liberia, Costa Rica where we met a driver that took us on the hour ride to Playa Conchal. We spent our first couple nights at the Westin Playa Conchal All inclusive! A fabulous resort with plenty to do for the entire family! We arrived in time to jump in the waves and enjoy one of the most spectacular sunsets. I love these pictures of the kids running with the sunset in the background. The resort was equipped with all the water sports activities to rent, kayaks, boogie boards, stand up paddle boards, and snorkeling. We were excited to take the snorkeling gear out and explore the underwater around the rocks. We saw many colorful fish, stingray, and beautiful colored shells. We loved the surface of the beach, it was made up of many tiny shells, not fun for walking on but fabulous for searching for shells!! The beach was full of locals selling everything from t-shirts to their jewelry and craftsmanship!
BIKE and HIKE
We rented bikes and got directions to the hiking and biking trails. The resort itself is plenty to ride around and enjoy the various shops and gardens. Being adventurous we decided to find the biking trails, which happened to look more like hiking trails. So we parked our bikes and enjoyed a beautiful hike which led us up high to a wonderful view of the luscious land and water! The kids loved running up and down the captivating trails, full of lush jungle green, flowers, views, animals sounds, and excitement!
FOOD, POOLS, AND FUN
All inclusive within itself is plenty to talk about! What’s better than ordering room service first thing in the morning and enjoying it on your balcony listening to the many native birds! Along with room service, there was a refrigerator in the room that was fully stocked with beers, soda, and waters daily. There were 13 different restaurants to choose from for lunches, snacks, and dinners. Pool side dining, main buffet, and excellent Asian, Italian, French food! We ate soooo much and had some really fabulous meals! Plenty of fresh fruit, squeezed juices, fresh fish, meats, and vegetables. I think the kids favorite spot was ordering pina colada’s at the swim up bar in the pool! Speaking of there was a huge pool, with plenty of seating, poolside basketball net, and daily activities in the pool from water polo, water aerobics, etc…
After a morning of exploring, we headed into the town of Tamarindo to check out the local flare. Tamarindo Beach is known as for its surfing, quaint seaside shops and restaurants. It was so cool to watch all the surfers in the water. I love how wide and long the beach is. We were there at low tide so we could walk out so far in the low water and found some of the most amazing shells. We went into a couple surf shops and inquired about the surfing. We learned that surfing was best at high tide right around lunch time, so we were put in touch with Monkey Jungle Canopy Tours and decided to head out on a zipline adventure (which they call canopy tours)!
MONKEY JUNGLE CANOPY ZIP LINING
A driver picked us up in town from Monkey Jungle Tours and we drove about 10 minutes outside of town into the jungle. What I loved most about this outfit, was it was a small company set up in a little cabin in the jungle. The guides were great and made you feel at such ease as you zigged and zagged, exploring the beauty from up high. I have mentioned before, that I tend to have a fear of heights, but not once was I afraid, instead I was completely overwhelmed with the stunning views and sense of freedom floating up high! We went on a series of 7 different lines and it was such a thrill to be up high like a monkey and see the untouched beauty of nature! At the conclusion of the tour the kids (and us) loved the Tarzan swing! Then we were served fresh cut pineapple as a delicious snack! I would highly recommend this company, but remember to bring cash to pay (no credit cards accepted).
I truly don’t know if there is anything more spectacular than a beach sunset. The way the sky changes colors as the sun is setting and the reflection on the water. I love to watch people stop what they are doing on flock down to the sand or perch up high to watch the sunset. Authentic beauty that should not be taken for granted!
